About Us
In 1971, during my last semester as a psychology major at the University of Massachusetts, I took a wheel-throwing class as an elective. I have been hooked on mud ever since. The year after graduation I moved to Jackson, NH, bought a wheel and a small electric kiln and began to find my way with clay. Mostly self-taught, I have worked for 30+ years, refining my techniques, learning the art of firing, and creating pottery I am proud to display and share with my customers.
Of course there was a bit of multi-tasking going on during those 30+years as my husband John and I raised three extraordinary daughters. I also taught second grade full-time in our local elementary school while my husband developed a successful building career. I am now retired and devote all my efforts to clay…well, almost all my efforts. I have two grandsons who are on the top of my list of priorities. My oldest grandson calls me Wabi and I was delighted to discover a description for some handcrafted pottery entitled Wabi-Sabi. Wabi means things that are humble and Sabi means things that gain beauty with age. I hope you will find those qualities in my pottery, as well.
I use both stoneware and porcelain clays and presently fire my pottery to 2300+ degrees in a large propane fired kiln.
Because my pottery is fired to such a high temperature it is dishwasher and microwave safe and can be used in the oven, as well.
I have been accepted as a guest member in the Designing Women artists group www.designingwomen.org and have been invited to participate in shows with the Maine Crafts Guild www.mainecraftsguild.com.
My work is available on-line, and at my studio/gift shop in Brownfield, Maine.
